I am so proud announce that my Agenda item creating THE BLACK RESILIENCY PROJECT AND FUND was unanimously accepted by the Richmond City Council Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
This initiative will finally begin to more directly address negative disproportionate impacts experienced by the Black residents in Richmond across multiple quality of life indicators such is housing insecurity, homelessness, being the victim of violent crime, police profiling, poor education access and support, under and unemployment, higher rates of chronic illness high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease to just name a few.
This project will: 1) gather and make easily available current data describing how these disproportionate impacts occur in Richmond’s Black Community and make recommendations for discreet interventions and city policy review & change, and 2) create a $1M+ fund to begin implementing recommendations via rfps and a community grant program and 3) create a Community Advisory Council to help guide the project and govern the fund.
As the process of launching this project gets underway I will share more updates.
Thank you to all the community stakeholders who helped me craft this agenda item, thank you to all of those who called in to support the item and thank you to the City Staff and my Council colleagues who supported the item, making it possible to move it forward.
